Answer – We received feedback from the end of season survey indicating parents would like to see a better option for returning T-Ball players and less-experienced Rookies. The new Rookie division has been created for returning 6 year olds & 7 year olds to bridge the gap between T-Ball and Kid Pitch Baseball. This level will introduce hitting from a thrown pitch by a coach, more advanced base-running skills, increased defensive play, and a more challenging game for the players. 2: How will players be assigned to teams at the new Rookie Level? Answer – The new Rookie Division is meant to be an advanced development level for returning 6 year olds & 7 year olds. Like T-Ball, scores will not be kept and there will be no end of season tournament. There will be no player assessment for this level. As such, players will be assigned to teams by the league coordinator who will try to balance the teams by the age of players. 3: What happened with the Old Rookie Division? Answer – With the new Rookie Division focusing on 6 & 7 year olds the newly named Single A Division will focus on 8 Year Olds. The big change for this level will be the introduction of Kid Pitch Baseball. The first two innings of each Single A game will be pitched by players. The remaining innings will revert to Coach Pitch. 4: Why introduce Kid Pitch at the Single A Division? Answer – Currently Kids do not get the opportunity to pitch until they are 9 in CCLL. Players, parents and coaches have given feedback that all indicate we should begin the process of teaching kids to pitch 1 year earlier. The new Single A division has been set up so that players get the opportunity to pitch and hit off kids pitching prior to full-time Kid Pitch when they turn 9. However, to keep the game exciting, we’re utilizing Coach Pitching to generate a higher level of activity. We’ve also extended the length of the games. 5: Can my 7 year old play at the new Single A Level? Answer – A 7 year old may try out during the 8 year old player assessments. The Managers at this level will rate the players and draft those that are ready for the challenges of the Single A level. 6: Why the switch from Machine Pitch to Coach Pitch? Answer – While the machines have been a mainstay at CCLL for years at the old Rookie Level, CCLL is dedicated to teaching the proper hitting techniques to players as early as possible. As players move up to Kid Pitch and beyond it is important for them to learn how to hit off a thrown pitch. The lever action of the machines, while typically very accurate, cannot replicate the throwing motion of a person actually pitching the ball. In addition, players need to learn to react to slight changes in speed and how to hit a pitch that moves around and rather than consistently going straight over the plate. We feel this change will improve the quality of hitting instruction for players in our league.
7: Why did the names of the divisions change? Answer – With the addition of a new division into the mix we took the opportunity to rename the divisions along the lines of Major League Baseball. Now your player’s Little League career will advance from T-Ball to Rookie, Single A, Double A, and Triple A on their way to the Major League just like players in the Big Leagues. |
